Every animal loving organization has decried the evils of pet listings on Craigslist.com! Craigslist, while acknowledging most of what they have been accused of, insists they are doing more good than bad.
We DO NOT AGREE, and we are seeking your help in instituting a National Boycott of Craigslist! Not just the pet listings, but EVERYTHING ON CRAIGSLIST.
In case you are unaware of the goings on, Craigslist pet listings have been accused of:
Craigslist and classified ads are favorite resources of serial animal abusers, dog fighting rings, hoarders, laboratories, and a variety of inappropriate people.
Some of the 'families' who have to give up the pets they love so much are actually amateur or back-yard breeders who subject their breeding animals to repeated matings, pregnancies, and deliveries, then dump them when they are no longer useful.
Craigslist is often a go-to source for animal abusers looking for victims because it is anonymous and there is no accountability or screening process like regular shelters and rescue groups provide.
Dogfighting circles use free Craigslist dogs as 'bait dogs' for training their own dogs to fight without risking injury, or they take in free dogs and train those to be fighters as well.
Other groups, called 'Bunchers' scour classifieds for free dogs, then sell them to laboratories for animal research and experimentation.
Sometimes, a free ad for re-homing a purebred, unaltered dog will result in the former family dog being picked up by a puppy mill breeder to spend the rest of her life as a caged, malnourished, unloved breeding machine.
A couple more things you can do to help me out (besides pledging for me)!
